The Fudjit First Anniversary Party, March 17th, 2002

in support of

The Handicapped Children's Pilgrim Trust

For reasons best known to themselves, Spence and Paul decided to attend in drag. Word spread quickly, and Marty and Lee joined them. There were rumours that Kenny would resort to full Kiss make-up, but fortunately we were spared that. In retrospect, it may have been easier to handle than some of the sights we saw.

While Spencette and Martina went for the Les Dawson / Monty Python look, and Leeanne opted for a Julian Clary approach, Pauline easily took the "Scariest Sight of the Night" award; see the photos for details, but be aware that they really can't do justice.

The three regular band members started the charity collection by donating £20 each. The final total was £215, four shillings and sevenpence, plus nine or ten ounces of assorted washers, twelve drachma and a Belgian franc. (We know who that was, and we also know where he lives!)

There was no set-list as such. Instead, the eager crowd could select from a list of fifty songs, paying £1 per song for the (doubtful) privilege. There were three totally unrehearsed songs available for £2 each, and songs not on the list at all were available for a donation of £5. Offers of £1 not to play were also accepted, and, as predicted, "Mustang Sally" raised a significant sum. The Fudjit "Kit-and-a-Half", premiered at the New Year's Eve party, was again in evidence. Slowhand Steve was sponsored 50p for each second that he could hold the long note in "Parisienne Walkways", and raised another couple of quid. Spencette offered to stop playing the song, but no-one was prepared to pay the tenner it would cost.

The night started with a (paid) request for "Shadowplay". As it turned out, Martina had forgotten to bring the words, so (s)he paid a £1 default for not singing it.

The evening then continued as detailed below.

(I aplogise to Chris for forgetting which songs he played; it would be easy to say that all blues sounds the same, but that is certainly not the case with this guy.)

The Photographs!

I generally publish only a selection of the photographs taken but this has to be an exception, and only the grossly out-of-focus shots have been withheld. Please note that parental consent may be required before viewing some of these shots (and medical treatment may be required afterwards).

Unless otherwise stated, these are (c) Ian, even the ones that Leeanne took.

Phil being propositioned by Pauline Kenny trying to be nonchalant. Dressed like that? The second outing for the Kit-and-a-half How frightening is this? Kenny Sherryl and Phil Kenny resisted being put off It wasn't easy... ...but he managed Patrick and Jim Jim, a virgin Fudjiteer Careful, Jim, he's looking at your ass! Martina was in fine form as usual No, Ian didn't dye his hair Ian sporting the newly-available Fudjit T-shirt Kenny and Amanda Amanda J. Pop star, or what? Aren't you glad Kenny didn't wear drag? Sherryl and Amanda Don't look at his eyes! A proper female bass player Chris hit some astounding blues again... ...assisted by Carol and Spencette Same again and again and again! The Unicorns The Unicorns again Spot the Slapper The Unicorns (again!) Slowhand Steve Nice pins, dearie Preparing for the big moment The costliest note of the night Glad that's over Is that a bottleneck on your finger... Oh good, it is The man Chris again Leeanne If Chuck Berry could see him now... All out of Blue Suede Not sure what Spencette thinks (s)he has to smile about Just when you thought Delilah couldn't get sillier Nice reflections! The Sensational Martina Fudjit There's a chord in there somewhere The Drummer-and-a-Half Love the hair-do Something here should be Wiped Out Pauline borrows Carol's Jazz Ian's Dick Dale impression Double-drumming on 'Wipe Out' Pauline again Sherryl and 'The Chain' And again A big hitter for such a little lass It's just a little bit TOO good, isn't it? Kenny actually looks relatively sensible The world's only transvestite singing drumming Geordie biker. I hope Kenny going wild The magic fingers More blood on the drum-kit Guess what Phil's just hit Smoke on the Drum Kit Watch and learn! Leeanne Brian's blurred again Another discerning audience The neglected art of air guitar is alive and well The oldest Fudjiteer in town More fun on the Kit-and-a-Half Let's hope we don't see this again Spencette seems fairly happy in the end Martina working the bar ...and the winner is... Nicola transforms Leeanne back to Lee They'll be talking about it for ages
